Career Vision & Professional Direction

Throughout the next five years or so, I plan to work in the foster care system. I have interests in various areas of the social work field so I anticipate working part-time, per diem, and/or doing contract work outside of my full-time job after being in the field for a few months. It is my hope that through the experience I gain in these future roles, I will gain an increased ability to successfully navigate complex dynamics and create effective change in micro, mezzo, and macro social work.

My long-term goals, once obtaining my MSW, are to be an adolescent and family therapist, in addition to working in positions that create effective policy and legislative changes.

My perspective aligns strongly with ecological systems theory. I believe that how individuals are treated in their communities and by systems, plays a large part in long-term outcomes for individuals. Because of this, I am passionate about systems work that creates effective change for any community that has experienced and been affected by oppressive systems.
